Please comment on the format you would like to pursue for YLA. Do you prefer Facebook or a wiki or have you got another suggestion?
Tanya Astika - I like the wiki because it can more focussed on just YLA and related activities interests. Facebook has too much personal information on it for our purposes, I think. Aug. 1/08
This seems to work - I will have to become more familiar with it and ensure that I use it... At one time in my life I used MSN so I am sure with some practice I will become more adept at these new fangled technologies.
I think it would be a good idea to enter into some discussion on facebook vs wiki and see how it works out.

I think either will work.
Facebook pros:
- easy to find and join YLA on it, so very easy for people to self-select to join (instead of trying to maintain an always-out-of-date e-mail list, the pressure is on the individual to join, takes away the "you didn't include me when you sent your e-mail about ... to all Yukon library people" complaints)
- easy to use
- lots of people are already using it
- very easy to configure for groups (open, closed, members accepted upon approval...)
- lots of customization available (including for privacy options)
Facebook cons:
- the negative connotation of the phrase "social networking" ... as in it is viewed as purely "social" by some people, even though it isn't
Wiki pros:
- very easy to configure for groups (open, closed, members accepted upon approval...)
- easy to use
Wiki cons:
- need to know it exists in order to find it, so self-selection still requires the e-mail list I so dread
A few cents worth of my thoughts. Aimee

I am at IFLA and it is amazing. Take a look at the "Australia Library and Information Association (ALIA)" in facebook, they are using it well. They also have a blog.
And, as I found out today, the Australian Leg library makes extensive use of wikis (internal and external). They use wikis for what we at EMR Library use our shared internal network drive: procedures manual, use of subjects, interesting questions, tracking documents.... very interesting.
